Fox McCloud
Bio: "The leader of the Star Fox squadron. His bravery and sense of justice is [sic] strong, although he can be too serious at times."
Returning roughly a year after Assault, Fox is now a 28 year old veteran pilot. Due to the multiple plotlines of Command, Fox has the general appearance of acting as overly-protective and emotionally insensitive to his teammates during times of conflict. Having forced Krystal off the team, Fox spends much of the game learning to balance the duties of being a hero and a friend to those around him. Of course, it all depends on the player whether or not Fox will see the error of his ways or continue to remain a solitary man of action.
Fox pilots the Arwing II* in Star Fox Command.
Falco Lombardi
Bio: "A member of Star Fox. He's brash and headstrong, but his peerless piloting makes him irreplaceable."
At the start of Command, Falco is once again flying solo throughout the Lylat System. At 29 years old, Falco is back in rare form, and his ego has never been bigger. Though his skills are quite admirable, Falco's storyline tends to drift often towards self-glorification. But, hey, did you ever expect him to be this funny?
Falco flies the Sky Claw.
Slippy Toad
Bio: "A member of the Star Fox team, and Fox's close friend. Known for his brains rather than his flying, he develops most of the team's weapons."
Slippy will join Fox for a fair amount of Star Fox Command, although his life has become slightly more complicated thanks to the fact that he's found himself a future wife, Amanda. Still the butt of many jokes, the 28-year-old toad is an honest and loyal friend of Fox's, but still keeps the safety of his fiancee at the forefront of his thoughts. Slippy pilots the Bullfrog.
Krystal
Bio: "A former member of Star Fox. She's strong and kind, but at times too stubborn for her own good."
Command sees the age-unknown Krystal removed from the Star Fox team and estranged from her former-love Fox. Asked to leave for her own safety, Fox failed to calculate Krystal's feelings into his decisions and hence she has formed a rather cold new disposition. During the various storylines of the game, Krystal's emotions range from vengeful and unsympathetic to Fox's phlight to confused and even apologetic. Of course, in the spirit of the "choose your own adventure" style of the game, we shall withhold any further details, as it's up to the player to decide her fate.
Krystal flies in both the Cloud Runner and the Cornerian Fighter
ROB 64
Bio: "The ever-calm robotic operations cheif of the Great Fox. At times, his sarcasm chip overrides his logic circuits"
This is the first major role that we've seen for ROB since he stopped delivering supplies to us at the end of the Starfox 64 storyline. Piloting the newly-redesigned Great Fox (which was utterly destroyed at the end of Star Fox: Assault), ROB has developed quite a personality in Star Fox Command. Quipping jokes and whirring nervously in the presence of women, this logistics robot plays a pivotable part in all of Command's levels. You will use him to fire missiles at enemies in single player, and in multiplayer he will keep you updated on the scores and item grabs of all players.
Katt Monroe
Bio: "A former colleague of Falco, she's still smitten with him. Katt secretly wants to join Star Fox so she can be near him."
Not seen since the 2002 online comic that supposedly took place 4 years after Starfox 64, Katt has undergone a significant shift in appearance, thanks to what the developer's have referred to as an "adult coat." Though we at AL do miss the pink fur, we still heartily welcome Katt back for another flirtatious go-round with Falco and the Star Fox team.
Katt flies the newly revamped Cat's Paw 2.
Bill Grey
Bio: "A pilot who plays a vital role in the Cornerian forces. A childhood friendship with Fox led Bill to also become a pilot."
Bill is, unquestionably, the character most fans were clamoring to see again when it was announced that Star Fox Command had a roster of 15 playable characters. Dropping his Californian surfer-style dialog for a more Southern twang, Bill returns as the heroic defender of Katina, although this time he flies without the support of the Husky Unit. In retrospect, Command may not be remembered for bringing Bill back into the storyline of the series, but instead for not giving him enough missions or an ending. But beggars can't be picky, now can we?
Bill returns aboard his Cornerian Fighter, still affectionately referred to by fans as the "Greenie."
Amanda
Bio: "Slippy's girlfriend. They met two years ago, and she fell in love with Slippy at first sigh. Or so the story goes..."
Apparently, prior to Star Fox: Assault, Slippy had managed to find himself a love interest in the deep blue seas of Aquas. Since then, he has proposed to his amphibian girlfriend and made her his bride-to-be, much to the amusement of... well, just about everyone in the game. Even Peppy can't help but crack a few jokes at the idea. Nevertheless, Amanda proves to be a strong-willed and caring new member of the Star Fox universe.
Amanda's ship is the Tadpole.
Lucy Hare
Bio: "Only daughter of Peppy Hare. She doted her father and longed to become a pilot. Currently teaches astrophysics on the planet Fichina."
Little is known about Peppy's newly exposed daughter, other than she is a teacher and a rather formidable fighter pilot. Coming into the storyline when you follow her distress call on Fichina, Lucy seems to have a fare amount of concern for her father's safety as the newly-appointed General, most likely due to the loss of her mother.
Lucy is the pilot of the Sky Bunny.
Dash Bowman
Bio: "A pilot for the Cornerian forces who volunteered for his current mission. He thinks the world of Star Fox and its member pilots."
Obviously, Dash's profile isn't the most telling source of information on this new character. What you might want to know, aside from his being a volunteer, is that Dash is also the grandson of Andross, the infamous mad scientist and final boss of Star Fox past. Now, while AL wholeheartedly endorses the Dash ending of Command as a plot connection to future games, there is still an enormous amount of character growth for Dash. He's young and can be tempted by the forces of good and evil, plus he calls Fox "Mr. McCloud." If that's not reason to keep him around, what is?
Dash, although a member of the Cornerian Army, flies a unique fighter called the Monkey Arrow.
Wolf O'Donnell
Bio: "The leader of the Star Wolf squadron. Despite the fact Star Wolf is a rival organization, Wolf has a grudging respect for Fox."
Since Star Fox Assault, people have been unsure of Wolf's presence as an ally of Fox or as his rival. At 29-years-old, he is unwilling to become the neighborly do-gooder that he sees Fox as, although at times it appears he may merely be envious of Fox's heroism. Still, Wolf prefers to look out solely for himself, and even provides a reasonable, if not mocking, counterpoint to Fox's ambition.
Naturally, Wolf is found flying his trusted Wolfen.
Panther Caruso
Bio: "A member of the Star Wolf squadron and a great pilot. Though a show-off and a lady's man, he often falls completely and faithfully in love."
How Panther has gone from lady's man to Krystal's suitor in less than one year is anyone's guess, but Star Fox Command has him playing the egotistic yet faithful lover to her hurt-and-rebellious attitude. Even more strangely, Panther refers to himself only in the third person throughout Command, making his personality even more of a departure from before. But personality transformations aside, Panther does have at least one thing going for him: that cannon on his ship is one nasty weapon.
As he told us in Assault, "All who see my Rose meet death." Hence, Panther's ship is the Black Rose.
Leon Powalski
Bio: "A member of the Star Wolf squadron. His image is ruthless and cold-blooded, but perhaps a friendly face lies under that exterior... Or perhaps not."
Leon was, is, and forever will be the mass-murderer of Lylat. Why that is remains uncertain, but Star Fox Command reassures us, through his dialog and background information, that Leon prefers to shoot first, and then shoot some more later. Now age 30, Leon has little interest in anything but violence and making a name for himself. Eager to shed the bounty from his head, will he be willing to act as Lylat's savior or remain a rogue?
Leon flies the Rainbow Delta in Star Fox Command.
Peppy Hare
Bio: "A general in the Cornerian forces. He's a former member of Star Fox and father figure to Fox. He was great friends with Fox's father."
Teetering around the age of 52 and still posing a threat as a fighter pilot is no small feat. It is with the utmost respect and appreciation that Peppy has risen to the prominence of General in the Cornerian armed forces, and who better to take the place of the much loved and sorely missed General Pepper than the man who demanded that we, as pilots, perfect the art of the barrel roll. Peppy's play time in Command is breif, but as the only line of defense between Corneria and the Anglar forces, he has never felt so important.
Peppy flies in the original Arwing.
James McCloud
Bio: "Fox's father and the leader of the original Star Fox squadron. He was betrayed by a teammate into the clutches of Andross, where it's said that he lost his life."
The inclusion of James in a Star Fox game is always a source of debate among fans, a fact that is quite telling of his importance to the mythology of the series. Is he living? Is he dead? Is he something in between? These are the questions we must ask ourselves time and time again, and the likelihood of the mystery ever being solved is quite slim. That being said, this may be the only time we are permitted to fly as the legend himself, so enjoy the opportunity while you can.
James can be found inside an original Arwing, naturally.
*With Star Fox Command, the Arwing design from Star Fox Assault is considering to be the "original" Arwing design, therefore replacing the models seen in Starfox 64 and Star Fox Adventures. Thus, James pilots the Assault-style Arwing because Command has overwritten the previous designs. |
